Deputies find meth during warrant process

The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday found methamphetamine scattered throughout a home at 10700 W Woodland Place in Homosassa.

Detectives with the Tactical Impact Unit (TIU) obtained the search warrant after learning that the home was used to sell significant amounts of methamphetamine, the Sheriff’s Office said.

One of the home’s occupants, 47-year-old Crystal Huggins, was subsequently arrested as a result of the investigation.

During their initial search, detectives had to shuffle through multiple layers of litter and debris both inside and outside of the home. The home had exposed wiring, open septic and other safety hazards. The home also did not have power supplied to the property, but  instead, ran power from a generator.

Inside the home, detectives located approximately 18 grams of methamphetamine. A portion of the methamphetamine located was recovered in areas accessible to children within the home. While continuing their search, detectives found drug distribution equipment and methamphetamine already packaged for sale. Detectives’ preliminary investigation revealed Huggins regularly sold methamphetamine from the home.

“Methamphetamine is an extremely dangerous and highly addictive drug,” said Sheriff Prendergast. “Inside this house, children were within reach of this dangerous drug. Where is the remorse for the disregard of their lives? We must continue our unwavering efforts to combat the illegal drugs in our community for the safety of our children and our residents.”

Huggins was arrested for trafficking in methamphetamine, which, if convicted, she could serve a minimum mandatory sentence of at least three years in prison.

Due to the conditions of the home and the hazards posed to occupants, Citrus County Code Enforcement and Department of Children and Families were notified and responded.
