Citrus County Animal Services (CCAS) Care Center now has X-Ray vision! Thanks to fundraising efforts by our community partner Citrus County Foundation for Animal Protection (CCFAP).
The new state-of-the-art digital X-Ray machine and table are an amazing addition to the care provided to animals at the Care Center. The day of installation staff was able to treat four animals without offsite visits.

After starting their burglary spree on Dec. 16 and 17, three Citrus County men are in custody.
Between December 16, 2020, and Dec. 17, the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) responded to multiple vehicle burglaries, attempts and auto thefts that occurred in the areas of Citrus Springs, Citrus Hills, Pine Ridge and Crystal River.

Citrus County deputies on Wednesday found 13 firearms and nine types of narcotics after serving a search warrant in Inverness.
Members of the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office Tactical Impact Unit (TIU) executed a narcotics search warrant at 785 S. Doug Pt in Inverness.
The target of this search warrant was Andrew Cannon, a 31-year-old Inverness man with two prior drug-related arrests, as well as a previous arrest for battery.
Cannon was taken into custody for two outstanding arrest warrants shortly before TIU detectives searched his home.

On Dec. 10, 2020, Judge Howard sentenced 28-year-old Emery Whitt to 30 years in prison for the 2017 murder of Ryan McClellan.
Detective Richey and Sergeant Holloway, with the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division (CID), conducted a lengthy and thorough investigation, leading to Whitt’s arrest in 2018 for McClellan’s murder.
These detectives continued to work closely with the State Attorney’s Office over the course of the judicial process, ultimately resulting in today’s sentencing. This sentence comes just under two years after Whitt’s arrest.

After thoughtful and careful consideration for the health, safety and welfare of our community, the Citrus County Legislative Delegation is modifying the process for receiving public input for the 2021 Legislative Session.
Just as millions of Floridians have made adjustments to normal events and activities, so we too are making changes in response to the challenges that COVID-19 has presented. All testimony, concerns, legislative input, and budget requests will be received by delegation members via email.

Demare Barnes, age 33, was arrested and charged with murder on Saturday after an altercation inside the Citrus County Jail between he and a 53-year-old inmate, Wayne Washer.
The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office on Monday said that, as a consequence of the altercation, the injuries sustained by Washer resulted in his death.
Barnes has been in the custody of the Citrus County Detention Facility on a no-bond status since his arrest on Oct. 6 for Attempted Murder and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.
