Former Citrus security officer lands warden job in Nebraska

A former Citrus County Detention Facility security chief has been named warden of the Tecumseh State Correctional Institution in southeast Nebraska..

Todd Wasmer was previously chief of security for the Citrus County Detention Facility in Lecanto. Wasmer assumes his new duties in August.

CCSO nabs cigarette heist suspects

Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the July 20 robbery of a Hernando gas station’s convenience store.

Arrested were Natalie Olivera, 20, and Herbert Davis, 19, both of Tampa.

The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) says that deputies were able to thwart that cigarette theft, and also help round up two suspects believed to be part of a tobacco theft ring spanning several counties.

Suicide suspect released from hospital, now faces charges

Ocala police today arrested a reported suicidal suspect who on July 19 barricaded himself in a Lecanto home.

The Sheriff’s Office said today that Salazar has been charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer. After being discharged from a Marion County hospital earlier today, Salazar was arrested by the Ocala Police Department on those charges.

New info released in suicidal suspect shooting in Lecanto

The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) today released more information in the incident in which a suicidal suspect who was shot after barricading himself in Lecanto on July 19.

Four deputies have been placed on paid administrative leave, pending further investigation of the incident.

Suicidal subject barricades self in Lecanto, later taken into custody

Shortly after 4 p.m. on Friday, patrol units with the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office responded out to 1245 West High Acres Street in Lecanto in response to a report of an armed, suicidal subject.

Subsequently, the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) and Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT) were deployed to assist.
