Learn-and-earn pilot program in Ocala will expand to other communities
OCALA, Fla. (Feb. 24, 2021) — Gov. Ron DeSantis announced today that Lockheed Martin and CareerSource Florida have partnered to develop and refine a registered apprenticeship program.
Lockheed Martin, one of the nation’s leading global security and aerospace companies, has led the development of a regional workforce and education ecosystem and will model the program across its major regional operations in Florida and nationwide.
“Lockheed Martin’s new apprenticeship program with CareerSource Florida exemplifies many of the reasons why Florida is the best state to do business: we are focused on job creation, partnerships, innovation and workforce education,” Gov. Ron DeSantis said.
During the early morning hours of Feb. 17, Citrus County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) deputies responded to a home in Crystal River after the occupants claimed to have been attacked by a suspect armed with a knife.
The suspect, 26-year-old Brett Carver, was later located by deputies at a local hospital where he was seeking treatment for wounds he had received from his own weapon during the attack.
Detectives Casalvieri and Bang with the Major Crimes Unit (MCU) responded to the hospital and began an investigation.
Citrus County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) deputies today, along with the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force, arrested 26-year-old David Jerome Lemon Jr. of Crystal River on charges of Premeditated Murder, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon and Shooting into an Occupied Vehicle.
“This violent crime has affected not only the victim’s family but our entire community, robbing both of their sense of safety and security,” said Citrus County Sheriff Mike Prendergast.
Citrus County Transit Services will begin enforcing a federally mandated mask requirement beginning Feb. 2.
This action is to further prevent spread of the virus that causes COVID-19 and to further support state and local health authorities, transportation partners, and conveyance operators to keep passengers, employees, and communities safe.
