Cardinal Suncoast Interchange public workshop looks at development plan

The Citrus County Commission held a pubic workshop to discuss a proposed future master development plan for Cardinal Street, a road which has historically been a seven-mile, two-lane road in Homosassa, Fla.

The Cardinal interchange is part of an extension of the Florida Department of Transportation’s (FDOT) of the Suncoast Parkway from Brooksville.

The street is proposed to be morphed into mixed use (both commercial and residential). Future developers would then be limited to parcel sizes of no less than 30 acres for any commercial use.

Due to technical issues, the Spectrum simultaneous broadcast of the Citrus County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) Cardinal Street Interchange Public Workshop on Tuesday is not going to be made available.

The meeting will still be held 10 a.m. in Room 100, Citrus County Courthouse, 110 N. Apopka Avenue, Inverness.

CCSO names interim emergency management head

Chris Evan has been named  Interim Director of Citrus County Emergency Management.

The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office is pleased to announce the appointment of Chris Evan to the position of Interim Director of Citrus County Emergency Management.

Finalized by a vote of members of the BOCC, Director Evan was nominated to take over the role upon Captain David DeCarlo’s retirement on Aug . 7, 2020.

Local woman seeks 5G moratorium

The controversy over 5G’s implementation has reached Citrus County.

On Tuesday, a woman called “Miss Beatrice” spoke to county commissioners about the health effects of the 5G communications network coming soon to a town near you.

Old Courthouse Heritage Museum reopens

Citrus County is pleased to announce the reopening of the Historic Citrus County Courthouse, the Old Courthouse Heritage Museum, and the Citrus County Archives at 1 Courthouse Square, Inverness on Wednesday, May 20, 2020, by appointment.

The museum will be scheduling tours at 10:00, 11:00, 1:00, 2:00 and 3:00, Monday – Friday, with special senior tours at 10:00 and 11:00 a.m. Family tours will be 1:00, 2:00, and 3:00 p.m. There will be signage throughout the Museum encouraging social distancing, and CDC recommendations.

Water district declares Phase I water shortage in Central, Southern regions

SFWMD Water District LogoThe Southwest Florida Water Management District’s (District) Governing Board voted today to declare a Phase I Water Shortage for the District’s central and southern regions, which include Charlotte, DeSoto, Hardee, Highlands, Hillsborough, Manatee, Pasco, Pinellas and Sarasota counties.

The primary purpose for a Phase I water shortage is to alert the public that watering restrictions could be forthcoming.
