Citrus County Sheriff’s Office officials today arrested 32-year-old, Demare Barnes of Crystal River on attempted murder charges stemming from a shooting that occurred in the early morning hours this past weekend.
“Barnes is no stranger to violence; his extensive criminal history makes that evident,” said Citrus County Sheriff Mike Prendergast. “Despite being sentenced in 2016 and serving four years in Union Correctional Institute, Barnes still posed a deadly threat to our community.
“I am so thankful the victim, in this case, was not harmed and CCSO professionals were able to rapidly capture this dangerous criminal for the safety of our citizens.”
After a juvenile was struck by a stray bullet on July 4, Citrus County deputies today arrested and charged a 75-year-old woman today in connection with the incident.
The parents of the victim said that on the 4th of July, they had been outside setting off fireworks when the victim fell to the ground screaming. Family members saw the victim was bleeding and immediately contacted the CCSO.
When deputies arrived on scene, the victim was being treated by Emergency Medical Services (EMS) for a wound to his abdomen. The victim was transported to the hospital, where it was confirmed that the victim had suffered a gunshot wound, and the projectile was still located inside his body.
Two people were arrested on drug trafficking charges following the execution of a search warrant in Floral City.
The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office said that Tommie Durell Neal Jr. and Rebecca Ann Carter were taken into custody after the home at 10915 E. Trails End Road was searched during the early morning hours today.
The CCSO’s Tactical Impact Unit (TIU) and the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team executed the search warrant, which was the culmination of months of investigation, revealing the home’s occupants were selling methamphetamine, heroin and fentanyl.
The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) on Sept. 28 arrested a man after a drug deal went sour and the alleged shooter is said to have fired into an occupied dwelling.
Deputies were dispatched to an unidentified residence in Inverness regarding a drive-by shooting. After the incident, the CCSO said, the suspect’s vehicle had fled the scene and no one inside the home was injured.
