New info released in suicidal suspect shooting in Lecanto

The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) today released more information in the incident in which a suicidal suspect who was shot after barricading himself in Lecanto on July 19.

Four deputies have been placed on paid administrative leave, pending further investigation of the incident.

On July 19, Citrus County Sheriff’s Office patrol units responded to 1245 West High Acres St.in Lecanto in reference to a report of an armed, suicidal subject.

CCSO’s Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) and Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT) were deployed to assist, along with the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office’s SWAT. The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement today, “The understandable decision to call upon Hernando County to aid our office in this event was due to CCSO’s SWAT just returning from an extensive training regimen at Camp Blanding in Starke. Knowing timelines for these situations are often unpredictable, relief for our SWAT team was a priority.”

The subject from this incident has been identified as Salvador Salazar, age 35. Salazar is still receiving medical treatment, the CCSO said, and has not been charged in this incident, which is pending further criminal investigation.

Four CCSO deputies involved in this incident have been placed on paid administrative leave while the incident is investigated further:

  • Deputy Randy Robinson
  • Deputy Jakob Fischer
  • Deputy Logan Groleau

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement’s and CCSO’s joint investigation is still ongoing at this time, as officials continue their examination of all available evidence and witness testimony. We will be providing updates on this incident once more information can be released.
