West Plantation Lane closure

Citrus County Road Maintenance has closed West Plantation Lane in Crystal River from North Hourglass Terrace to North Michaelmas Terrace.

A detour will direct vehicles from West Plantation Lane south on North Hourglass Terrace to West Pimpernel Lane, then north on North Michaelmas Terrace back to West Plantation Lane.

County health officials warn of mosquito-borne illness

The Florida Department of Health in Citrus County (DOH-Citrus) today advised residents there has been an increase in mosquito-borne disease activity in areas of Citrus County.

Several sentinel chicken flocks have tested positive for West Nile virus infection. The risk of transmission to humans has increased.

Citrus County Mosquito Control District and DOH-Citrus continue surveillance and prevention efforts.

County closes temporary animal shelter, old one back in business

Animal Services is closing their temporary shelter at the Fire Station located at 9658 S. Pleasant Grove Road in Inverness.

Residents looking for their lost pet, or who would like to adopt a pet, are asked to visit the official Citrus County Animal Shelter at 4030 S. Airport Rd., Invernessl.

Text-to-911 now available in Citrus County

In an effort to increase accessibility to 9-1-1 emergency services, no matter the situation, the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) will be implementing text-to-9-1-1 beginning on Aug. 9.

Citrus County citizens who are deaf/hard of hearing, or have a speech-impairment will be among those most impacted by the text-to-9-1-1 implementation.

Temporary animal shelter opens for adoptions

Citrus County Animal Services received test results from Cornell University confirming Pneumovirus in the canine population in the upper and lower kennels.

Animal Services is awaiting further test results from Cornell that will be used to determine when to lift the quarantine. Pneumovirus is an upper respiratory virus with no vaccine. Best practices dictate quarantining the afflicted animals until the virus has run its course.
