Citrus County Sheriff’s deputies are looking for more information after discovering the skeletal remains on Saturday in Homosassa of a man reported missing on Nov. 16.
At a press conference on Monday, detectives said that the skeletal remains were determined, using dental records, to be that of Ryan Michael McClellan 33.
Detectives said the remains were found in “a large trash can” in a wooded lot off American Avocell Point in Homosassa, about one-half mile from his home, that is thought to have been placed there by unknown persons about the time Hurricane Irma rumbled through the county.
The Sheriff’s Office is investigating the case as a homicide, Prendergast said. Detectives add that McClellan is believed to have suffered upper-body trauma.
McClellan is a native of Michigan, the Sheriff’s Office said, and moved here several years ago. He also has three daughters.
Detectives are looking for as much information as possible about the incident. Anyone with information as to the identity of the person or persons who left the trash can or any suspicious people or vehicles seen in that area are asked to contact 352-726-1121 and speak with the on-call Major Crimes detective.
If you wish to remain anonymous, you can contact Crime Stoppers at 1-888-ANY-TIPS or go to their website at www.crimestopperscitrus.com and you may be eligible for a reward of up to $3,000.
