County closes temporary animal shelter, old one back in business

Animal Services is closing their temporary shelter at the Fire Station located at 9658 S. Pleasant Grove Road in Inverness.

Residents looking for their lost pet, or who would like to adopt a pet, are asked to visit the official Citrus County Animal Shelter at 4030 S. Airport Rd., Invernessl.

Crews battle Crumps Landing fire

Citrus County Fire Rescue and the Sheriff’s Office had units on scene for a reported fire at Crumps Landing in Homosassa.

Crew members on scene were able to safely put out the fire. No one was injured during this unfortunate event.

The main tiki hut was destroyed in the flames, however.

Landing gear frozen, but pilot lands plane safely

No injuries were reported Friday when a plane — whose landing gear was stuck — got things unstuck when the pilot was able to deploy gear manually.

The Citrus County Sheriiff’s Office (CCSO) said that the CCSO Aviation Unit, alongside Citrus County Fire Rescue and Nature Coast EMS, arrived on scene as the small plane circled the Inverness Airport with failing landing gear.

Fire, EMS and Law Enforcement all came together to prepare for the worst, but hope for the best, the CCSO said in a statement.

Become an advocate for an abused or neglected child

In Citrus County, more than 300 children that are abused, abandoned and neglected are in the child welfare system, most of which are 10 years of age and younger.

Their fate has been turned over to the state. They now depend on lawyers, judges, social workers and foster parents to make sure they are safe, protected and provided the services necessary to overcome their circumstances.

Animal shelter animals need foster homes now

Citrus County Animal Services is in desperate need of foster homes especially for those that are most vulnerable and fragile which include neonates (bottle babies), especially kittens, moms with litters, and underage (not old enough for adoption) puppies and kittens.

We also have foster opportunities for those animals that have medical needs or who just need a break from the shelter, think of it as their vacation or weekend off from work.
