District Aims to Reduce Risk of Wildfires by Scheduling Prescribed Fires for Hernando County

Setting prescribed fires in controlled settings can reduce the risk of wildfires burning out of control, as many Floridians witnessed during the state’s wildfire emergency in 2017.

That’s why the Southwest Florida Water Management District (District) will be conducting prescribed burns June through August at Annuteliga Hammock and Weekiwachee Preserve in Hernando County.

Crystal River Pirates make their mark on softball

This was their year as the Crystal River High School “Pirates” girls’ softball team earned second place in the Class 6A State Softball Championship Game.

The Pirates finished the season 20-7 with the second Final Four appearance in school history, and first trip to the title game.

June 15 Elder Abuse Awareness in Citrus County

The Citrus County Commission has proclaimed June 15 as 2019 World Elder Abuse Awareness Day in Citrus County.

Two years on, CCSO still looking for Carol McHugh

Carol McHugh

The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office is still looking for a county resident who went missing two years ago.

That resident is Carol McHugh, who vanished on June 8, 2017.

McHugh, a 72-year old mother and grandmother from Inverness, suffering from memory issues, completely disappeared without a trace in 2017 from her home while she was on a walk, and left without any food, water, or medications.

Sheriff’s Office looking for runaway juvenile

The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office looking for runaway juvenile, Jordan Turner.

Turner is a 16- year-old black male, 6 feet tall, 120 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.

He was last seen May 25, 2019 at about 8:00 PM at his residence in Inverness.

It is not known what Jordan was wearing at the time that he ran away. Jordan does have a cell phone in his possession.
