Donations help Citrus County heros

Thanks to the donations of generous community partners, the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office is now one-step closer to building their Law Enforcement Memorial for Citrus County’s fallen law enforcement officers.

Following the 2019 Peace Officer Memorial Day Ceremony on May 15 in Inverness, Jerry Orbino with Knights of Columbus Father James Hoge Assembly 1547, Warden Mike Quinn of CoreCivic, along with Jim Coburn from the National Association of Retired Law Enforcement Officers (NARLEO) presented three individual checks on behalf of their organizations to Sheriff Mike Prendergast for the memorial.

Spring Career Fairs plant seeds of opportunity for businesses, job candidates

The annual career fairs will take place in Citrus County on Tuesday, March 26 at the College of Central Florida’s Learning and Conference Center in Lecanto and on Thursday, March 28 at CF’s Klein Conference Center in Ocala.

OCALA, Florida – Employment and recruiting opportunities will be in full bloom next month during a pair of Spring Career Fairs hosted by CareerSource Citrus Levy Marion.

Derelict vessel removed from Homosassa River

Removal of derelict vessel from the Shivers Bay, Homosassa River on Feb. 14, 2019)

Thanks to the efforts of Citrus County Aquatics Director Mark Edwards, and staff, an identified derelict vessel was removed on Feb. 14 from the Homosassa River.

In December 2018, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) notified Citrus County of the potential derelict vessel and later the same month, the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) approved staff to apply for grant funding from the FWC to remove the derelict vessel.
