County law enforcement honored during January

The Citrus County Commission has proclaimed Jan. 9 as “Law Enforcement Officer Appreciation Day — and Jan. 5 through 11, 2020 as “Law Enforcement Appreciation Week” in Citrus County.

The county presented a proclamation to that effect to a group of county deputies during the regular meeting Jan. 7 of the commission.

The proclamation reads:

” WHEREAS; the Law Enforcement Officers of Citrus County play an essential role in safeguarding the rights and freedoms of Citrus County. Law Enforcement Officers of Citrus County are daily risking their lives to ensure that each citizen can live in a safe and secure environment; and

WHEREAS, Law Enforcement Officers work in partnership with their community to protect life and property, solve neighborhood problems, and enhance the quality of life in this county. It is important that all citizens know and understand the duties, responsibilities, hazards, and sacrifices of their law enforcement officers; and

WHEREAS, the deputies of the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office recognize their duty to serve the people by safeguarding life and property, by protecting them against violence and disorder, and by protecting the innocent against deception and the weak against oppression.

NOW, THEREFORE, the Board of County Commissioners of Citrus County, Florida call upon all patriotic, civic and educational organizations to observe the week of January 5 through 11, 2020 as “Law Enforcement Appreciation Week” and January 9, 2020 as “Law Enforcement Officer Appreciation Day” with appropriate ceremonies and observations in which all of our people may join in commemorating law enforcement officers, past and present, who by their faithful and loyal devotion to their responsibilities, have rendered a dedicated service to their communities and in so doing have established for themselves an enviable and enduring reputation for preserving the rights and security of all citizens. WHEREAS; the Law Enforcement Officers of Citrus County play an essential role in safeguarding the rights and freedoms of Citrus County. Law Enforcement Officers of Citrus County are daily risking their lives to ensure that each citizen can live in a safe and secure environment; and
