Citrus County Clerk Angela Vick has warned county residents of a potential deed copy scam.
Recently, a county resident brought the clerk office’s attention to a mail solicitation received from a company offering to provide a property profile and a copy of the deed recorded in the homeowner’s name.
“Companies offering these services are charging exorbitant fees,” Vick said in a facebook post.
Vick noted that The Clerk’s office does not request payment for recorded property deeds via mail. “Stay atlert to all suspicious mailings, phone calls and emails and be aware of scams or potential scams,” Vick said.
Residents s may acquire certified copies of deeds for $1 per page, and $2 for the certification; a cost significantly less than the fees these companies are advertising, Vick said. Uncertified copies of deeds are also available for $1 per page.
“The Clerk’s office is available to respond to questions regarding property deeds and the cost of obtaining a copy. Please feel free to contact the Official Records Department in our office at (352) 341-6424 or stop by the Clerk Annex, located at 120 N. Montgomery Avenue, Inverness, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding holidays.” Vick said.
